The 2025 Geely Galaxy Starship 7 EM-i marks a major milestone in the evolution of plug-in hybrid SUVs. Launched under Geely’s high-tech Galaxy sub-brand, this next-generation vehicle is designed to challenge market leaders like BYD and Toyota by offering superior performance, innovative technology, and striking design—all at a competitive price.

Built on Geely’s new GEA platform, the Starship 7 EM-i is a mid-size SUV that combines a 1.5L NordThor EM-i hybrid engine with a 160 kW electric motor, delivering a torque of 262 Nm. This powertrain ensures quick acceleration, with a 0–100 km/h sprint in just 7.5 seconds, while keeping fuel consumption impressively low at around 2.6 L/100 km.

Buyers can choose between two battery configurations: an 8.5 kWh or a 19.1 kWh LFP battery. The larger battery offers up to 120 kilometers of pure electric range, making it ideal for daily city commuting. With a full tank and battery, the Starship 7 EM-i boasts a total range of over 1,400 kilometers, combining electric and fuel power seamlessly.

Design and Interior

The vehicle’s exterior design is futuristic and refined, characterized by a closed front grille, full-width LED light bars, a floating roof, and flush door handles. With dimensions of 4,740 mm (L) × 1,905 mm (W) × 1,685 mm (H) and a 2,755 mm wheelbase, the SUV offers generous interior space.

Inside, the cabin is both minimalist and luxurious. The centerpiece is a 15.4-inch floating central touchscreen paired with a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster. Soft-touch materials, ambient lighting, and ventilated seats elevate the driving experience. The boot offers 528 liters of cargo space, expandable up to 2,065 liters with the rear seats folded.

Smart Features and Safety

The Starship 7 EM-i comes equipped with Level 2 autonomous driving, including adaptive cruise control, automatic emergency braking, and lane centering. A 360° camera, six airbags, wireless Apple CarPlay, and voice control are standard across variants.

Geely also focuses on aerodynamic performance—the SUV has a drag coefficient of just 0.288 Cd, contributing to better efficiency and handling. It’s no surprise that the model won a Red Dot Design Award, reinforcing its global appeal.

Global Launch and Competitiveness

Currently launched in China, the Geely Galaxy Starship 7 EM-i is expected to roll out globally under the Starray EM-i nameplate in markets like Australia and Southeast Asia. Priced starting from around ¥139,800 (~$19,200) in China, it offers unmatched value for a premium hybrid SUV.

In a market dominated by Tesla, BYD, and traditional automakers, Geely’s latest hybrid is a strong contender. Whether for city drivers or long-range travelers, the Starship 7 EM-i delivers power, luxury, and sustainability without compromise.
