Sony Honda Mobility’s AFEELA 1 is more than just a car—it’s a next-generation mobility platform. Revealed at CES, the AFEELA 1 blends Honda’s experience in performance and reliability with Sony’s cutting-edge technologies in entertainment, AI, and user experience. It marks the debut of a premium, intelligent EV designed for tech-savvy drivers seeking luxury and smart connectivity.
Performance Specs & Powertrain
The AFEELA 1 is built on a dual-motor all-wheel-drive platform generating a total of 483 horsepower (360 kW) and 655 Nm of torque, providing brisk acceleration and all-weather control. It uses a 91 kWh battery with an estimated EPA range of 300 miles (483 km) and supports DC fast charging up to 150 kW via the NACS connector.
Technology-Driven Interior
Inside, the AFEELA 1 is futuristic and immersive. A panoramic digital dashboard, rear-seat entertainment screens, and Sony’s 360 Reality Audio system turn the car into a rolling lounge. The infotainment is powered by Epic Games’ Unreal Engine, offering cinematic-grade visuals and interactivity.
Personalization is driven by AI, adapting climate, media, and seat preferences based on driver habits. The AFEELA Personal Agent provides natural-language interaction for navigation, smart home control, and media access.
Advanced Safety & Driver Assistance
Equipped with 40 sensors including LiDAR, radar, cameras, and ultrasonic detectors, the AFEELA 1 offers Level 2+ autonomous driving, with potential to upgrade to Level 3 in future updates. It comes standard with AFEELA Intelligent Drive, a comprehensive ADAS suite that includes adaptive cruise control, lane centering, and self-parking capabilities.
Trims, Pricing, and Production
The AFEELA 1 will debut in two trims:
- Signature – $102,900
- Origin – $89,900
Production will begin in 2026 at Honda’s factory in Ohio. Initial deliveries are expected to start in California, with a $200 refundable reservation required. A 3-year subscription to key connected features will be included.
Challenges and Market Position
Sony and Honda are facing challenges with direct-to-consumer sales, particularly in California where dealership laws are strict. The California New Car Dealers Association (CNCDA) has filed legal complaints to block sales, adding regulatory friction to the launch.
Despite this, the AFEELA 1 stands apart from other EVs like the Tesla Model S or Mercedes EQE by focusing heavily on the in-cabin digital experience, rather than just performance or range.
Why the AFEELA 1 Matters
The AFEELA 1 isn’t just another luxury EV—it’s a vision of what the future of in-car experience could be. With entertainment, interactivity, autonomy, and sustainability at its core, it targets a new generation of tech-immersed drivers who want more than a vehicle—they want a digital ecosystem on wheels.
